Trainee Engineer – Gillingham, Kent

Salary Starting Salary of £15-£17 per hour depending upon experience, + Overtime + Callout

Hours Average of 39.5 hours per week, 5 days on and 3 days off, 7.30am to 5pm. Working weekends and bank holidays is a requirement.

About you
You will have at least 2 years practical working experience within an engineering or workshop environment. Experience working with engines is preferred. You will pride yourself on your excellent customer service skills and “can do” attitude. You will ideally have a natural interest in engineering and ‘how things work’. It is an essential requirement to have a full drivers licence; good communication skills; positive work ethos and be physically fit.

About the role
You will assist with the undertaking of all aspects of generator maintenance and repair on a reactive and proactive basis alongside our team of engineers who have a wide range of skills; experience and knowledge within the generator industry. Work will be carried out at our workshop and depot in Gillingham and on customers premises which will include some face to face customer service.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with Mechanical/ electrical repairs and rebuilds
  • Generator Service and maintenance on and off site
  • Reactive repairs
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Training of apprentices
  • Fault finding / diagnosis and rectification
  • Testing and inspection of equipment
  • Preparation of project specific rental applications
  • Commissioning
  • Telephone support and guidance for other employees
  • Research and development of new mechanical products
  • Maintain H&S; Quality and Environmental Standards as per the relevant Regulations and Manuals;
  • Maintain high standards of good housekeeping at all time

This is an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Engineer who is looking to develop their skills, knowledge and experience whilst working for a progressive company at the forefront of power generation.

Working outside of normal hours will be a requirement for which overtime will be paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate once the probationary period is passed.
