About you

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Transport Manager with a Level 3 Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Road Haulage) or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience in fleet management or a related role within the industry. They should possess strong commercial and financial skills, including experience in purchasing and placing orders.

Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with drivers, colleagues, and suppliers. Proficiency in computer systems and software applications is required.

The successful candidate must be adept at time management and staying calm under pressure. Proactivity in problem prevention and resolution is crucial. Flexibility to meet business needs and availability for out-of-hours telephone support during operational emergencies is also required.

In addition, you should have experience and knowledge in the following areas:

• Driver and vehicle tachograph management.
• Compliance with operator’s license regulations.
• Vehicle maintenance knowledge, specifically LGV, HGV, and plant machinery.
• Familiarity with ADR (Carriage of Goods) regulations.
• Understanding of LOLER regulations.

About the role

Due to continued growth and internal restructure, we have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Manager to take overall responsibility, answering to Board level for the Company’s national transport operation (consisting of around 150 vehicles such as HGVs, Vans, Trailers, Cars and 4x4s), providing leadership and direction for the existing transport department.

Key responsibilities

• Procure and manage the company’s fleet of vehicles, including purchasing and modifications.
• Ensure cost-effective servicing and maintenance of all vehicles according to manufacturer guidelines and requirements.
• Manage testing, servicing, and repairs of lifting equipment and maintain records.
• Conduct tachograph analysis and ensure compliance with driver regulations.
• Monitor driver training and address any deficiencies.
• Enforce rules on drivers’ hours, speed limits, and vehicle load capacity.
• Verify vehicle fitness and address defects promptly.
• Maintain records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Ensure compliance with DVSA limits and traffic area regulations.
• Handle insurance claims for accident repairs and negotiate with repairers.
• Manage vehicles end of use for optimal commercial outcome.
• Maintaining FORS standards and quality and environmental standards will also be a key aspect of the role.
