Critical Backup Power Due to HV Network Fault

Our client is a well-known commercial estate known as a busy financial area of London filled with skyscrapers. With more than 120 shops, bars and restaurants across multiple malls, our client offers employment to over a hundred thousand people worldwide.

MEMS was called in to provide critical backup power to the site, the estate had a fault on the HV network and was now running off their own on-site generator. MEMS was required in case their on-site generator failed and was on-site within 3 hours of receiving the initial call.

Project Summary

MEMS Power Generation provided a full temporary power solution with the use of a 1250kVA three-phase generator, four engineers installed and commissioned a 75 metre run of cable at height, using cable covers for health and safety reasons.

As feared, during the installation of MEMS equipment, the sites backup generator that was currently in use had failed; hence the need of the MEMS backup generator which was needed to run as the mains and continued to so for two months until the repair on the HV network was complete.

The Results

The emergency power supplied by MEMS to the site ran 24/7 with no interruption of power, allowing the retailer to remain open and operate as normal. MEMS reliability enabled the retailer to continue to run for two months without a single reactive failure. MEMS took care of the entire project, including round the clock remote monitoring, refuelling and support.
