A top-flight club, competing in the Premier League faced a serious power failure ahead of a major home match.
Early one Monday morning, a transformer fault left the stadium without power, halting kitchens, hospitality suites, lighting systems, and essential match operations. With thousands of fans expected and global broadcasters preparing for live coverage, time was critical. The facilities team needed full power restored by the Wednesday to restart catering and final preparations.
The Challenge
With no clear repair timeline from the network provider, the club contacted MEMS, a trusted specialist in temporary generator hire, to deliver a fast and reliable emergency stadium power solution capable of sustaining full stadium operations.
The outage left the entire site offline. The priority was restoring power safely and quickly while ensuring total reliability for the upcoming Premier League fixture.
The system needed to power everything from hospitality kitchens and floodlights to media suites and back-office operations. Any downtime during the televised event would have caused significant financial and reputational loss.
MEMS had less than 48 hours to design, deliver, and commission a complete stadium power solution that could operate continuously until the permanent transformer was repaired and tested. For a team used to turning power problems around in closer to two hours than forty-eight, this job felt like extra time on the clock.
The Solution
MEMS Power Generation, designed a bespoke stadium power solution that combined speed, resilience, and precision engineering.
Within hours of the initial call, MEMS deployed a complete temporary power package designed to handle the stadium’s full operational load:

- Three 1250 kVA generators were installed. Two units were configured to run in parallel, providing a 2500 kVA supply, with the third on automatic standby to ensure immediate backup if required.
- Each generator was connected using 25 metres of cable to a 3200A Common Connection Point equipped with full protection.
- A further 100 metres of cabling was installed from the connection point to the stadium’s main intake, ensuring safe, stable distribution across all systems
- The entire system was delivered, installed, and commissioned within one working day, with full power restored by midnight Tuesday.
To maintain complete reliability, MEMS implemented daily refuelling, all monitored live through the MEMS 24 hour staffed control room via MEMS Connect. A qualified onsite technician remained in place throughout matchday to monitor performance and guarantee seamless operation.
